2017 Shades of Black Show at the University of Idaho

The award-winning and regionally acclaimed Shades of Black Show’s Homecoming

sbsui2017backMOSCOW, IDAHO—January 17-2017, the award-winning and regionally acclaimed Shades of Black Show returns to the campus it was created, the University of Idaho. Created in 2003 by alumnus Kwapi Vengesayi, and making its debut in the Bruce M Pitman Center (formerly the Student Union Building) in the spring of 2004, the Shades of Black Show explores and celebrates the different textures and dimensions of the multicultural experience through the performing arts.

Hosted by the Black Student Union and sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, this upcoming showcase will feature a diverse lineup of talented students from the University of Idaho, Washington State University, and Eastern Washington University. Using dance, poetry and song as vehicles for self-expression and social commentary, students and members of the community will take to the stage and deliver unique, engaging and thought-provoking performances.

This year’s theme is Chronicles: Illuminating the present by chronicling our past and celebrating the icons that impacted our world. This is a theme that will allow students to explore and celebrate those who left a positive, indelible mark in society.

Admission is free and the show will be held in the Bruce M. Pitman Center’s International Ballroom. Doors open at 5PM. As an advisory, some performances may contain strong language or sensitive content.

What is the Shades of Black Show?

Created by Kwapi Vengesayi in 2003, the Shades of Black Show is a showcase that celebrates the different textures and dimensions of the multicultural experience through the performing Arts. It has established itself as one of the most anticipated productions in the northwest region of the United States and won the 2015 National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) West Region Outstanding Multicultural Program of the Year and the 2016 Student Entertainment Board Program of The Year at Washington State University.

The award-winning and regionally acclaimed Shades of Black Show returns to Washington State University

PULLMAN, WASHINGTON – October 21-2016, the award-winning and regionally acclaimed Shades of Black Show returns to Washington State University. Hosted by the Student Entertainment Board and featuring students from Washington State University, the University of Idaho, Eastern Washington University and Boise State University, the Shades of Black Show is guaranteed to continue living up to its reputation as one of the most diverse and inclusive multicultural productions in the west.

Created in 2003 at the University of Idaho by Kwapi Vengesayi and making its debut in January of 2004, the Shades of Black Show explores and celebrates the different textures and dimensions of the multicultural experience. Through dance, poetry and song, students and members of the community take to the stage and use the performing arts as a vehicle for self-expression and social commentary—a diverse mix of voices and talent that makes the Shades of Black Show a unique, engaging, and entertaining experience for all who attend.

Admission is free and the show will be held in the CUB Senior Ballroom. Doors open at 6:30pm (Be on time, seats fill up quickly).
